Rugged Textiles Receives Policetech Tested™ Badge Following Successful Pilot

For frontline officers, the equipment they carry every day has a direct impact on how they work, move and feel throughout a shift. That reality was at the centre of a recent V13 Policetech Accelerator pilot with Rugged Textiles, focused on the Balteus Max tactical belt system.

Developed to address the physical strain often caused by traditional duty belts, the Balteus Max was tested over an eight-month period by members of the Cobourg Police Service and Port Hope Police Service. The pilot focused on officer comfort, ergonomics, durability and operational. After completing the V13 Policetech Accelerator Pilot Stream, Rugged Textiles received the Policetech Tested™ Badge, showcasing quality and performance in real-world policing environment.

The V13 Policetech Accelerator is a joint initiative between Nventure and the Cobourg Police Service that connects innovators with police services to gather direct feedback from frontline personnel and test products in operational environments. Through the Pilot Stream, participating technologies are evaluated by law enforcement professionals against criteria related to applicability, functionality, durability and quality. Throughout the Rugged Textiles pilot, officers used the Balteus Max during regular operational duties and provided feedback based on their day-to-day experience and the results provided validation.

Participants reported little to no visible wear after eight months of daily use, improved weight distribution and a positive impact on overall comfort. They also highlighted the quality of the materials and fabrication, with several indicating they would recommend the belt to other officers experiencing back pain. One participating officer shared that they would typically miss two to three days of work every couple of months because of back pain. Yet this did not occur during the Rugged Textiles pilot project. The officer attributed that improvement to the new tactical belt.

That feedback speaks to why real-world testing matters. For innovators, it provides validation from the people who understand the operational environment best. For police services, it offers added confidence that a product has been evaluated in the field and performed to a high standard. Rugged Textiles’ Balteus Max is a strong example of practical innovation developed in Ontario and tested through local collaboration.

Nventure and the V13 Policetech Accelerator extend sincere thanks to the participating members of the Cobourg Police Service and Port Hope Police Service for their time, feedback and commitment throughout the pilot. Congratulations to Rugged Textiles on successfully completing the pilot testing phase and receiving the Policetech Tested™ Badge.

The V13 Policetech Accelerator continues to support three active pilot projects like the one just concluded with Rugged Textiles, with new ideas and innovations in constant development through the Pitch to the Chief™ competition and the Youth Edition (which wrapped up last week). Listen at the 33-minute mark to what the Chief of the Cobourg Police Service, Chris Leather, had to say about the presentations made by students from St. Mary Catholic Secondary School and Port Hope High School at Venture13. Nventure looks forward to continuing to support entrepreneurship and innovation at the forefront of policing and community safety, through the Policetech Tested™ Badge and other initiatives.
