S3 E1 Volta Space Technologies
Welcome to Season 3
Canada's space sector is entering a new era. From the Artemis Moon program and next-generation robotic systems to the Telesat Lightspeed constellation, MDA's CHORUS Earth-observation satellites, and a growing cohort of venture-backed spacetech startups, Canada is rapidly expanding its capabilities in communications, robotics, Earth observation, lunar infrastructure, and defence technologies. The result is arguably a more commercial, more globally competitive, and increasingly strategic space economy than at any point in Canadian history.
With Canadian astronauts in space (Jeremy Hansen, Joshua Kutryk) and sovereign launch capability being built on the ground (Canada Rocket Company, NordSpace, Reaction Dynamics) the Frontier Entrepreneurship Podcast team is excited to bring you a thematically-focused Spacetech Start-up Series for Fall, 2026. Season 3 features a line-up of all-Canadian entrepreneurs and innovators at the forefront of this new era.
Episode 1
In our season opener, Frontier co-hosts Braden Kemp and Tracy Morningstar (Canadian Council for Indigenous Business) sit down with Justin Zipkin, Co-Founder & CEO of Volta Space Technologies: a Montréal-based venture developing the infrastructure to power the Moon. Volta is building wireless energy transmission systems that beam power from orbit to lunar surface operations, eliminating the need for massive batteries and enabling missions to survive the harsh two-week lunar night. With upcoming orbital and lunar demonstrations, strategic partnerships, and support from key players including the Canadian Space Agency (read the latest announcement of funding for advanced space technologies) Volta is working toward a future where energy is available on the Moon as a service.
As Justin reminds us, “There is no dark side.”
